The authors present a description of the kinematics of a bimaterial interface in terms of strains in the case of infinitesimal plane deformation. They investigate the equivalence of matching curvature changes and tangential strains with the matching of displacements. Some results are obtained in the cases of a bonded interface and slipping inclusion. After preparing a theory of plane curves, the authors employ a linearization to express the change in curvature in terms of the infinitesimal strain. Finally they investigate the interface jump condition for the change in curvature along a curve, and discuss a generalization where the conditions on the strain are equivalent to conditions expressed entirely in terms of displacements.
