The author investigates inverse, semi-inverse and direct problems (I, II, III) which involve partial differential equations, St.-Venant and von Mises relations, and nonlinear yield and incompressibility conditions. The problems of type I require a description of the fully plastic region boundary in order to find the boundary conditions. The problems of type II require a description of the geometric boundary of the same region as well as a boundary condition which includes an arbitrary function connecting these conditions with the stresses. Finally, the problems of type III require a description of the same boundary and of all boundary conditions in order to specify the stresses. The applications presented concern a plastic rectangular full plate (I), a quadrilateral plate with linear shear stress on one boundary (II), an obtuse wedge under normal lateral pressure and under other loads. The procedure exhibits the advantage to avoid numerical integration of equations for characteristics, being applicable more generally in comparison with the slip line method. The paper valuates the exact solving of nonlinear equations, which agrees with already existing solutions obtained by the slip line methods.
