The paper deals with the boundary value problem \[ Lu\equiv-\varepsilon u''- p(x)u'+ q(x)u= f(x),\quad x\in(0,1);\quad u(0)= u(1)= 0, \] where \(\varepsilon\in (0,1)\) is a constant, \(p(x)\), \(q(x)\), \(f(x)\) are sufficiently smooth functions on \([0,1]\). To solve this problem numerically the \(p\)-version of the finite element method is applied. With a special choice of the grid points, global error estimates are established. Some numerical results are given to show the performance of the proposed method.
