During 1987-1991, a part of the research in my group was devoted to the study of fractals. One main topic is the phase transitions for Ising models on lattice fractals. The study was started from the typical lattice fractals: the Sierpinski gasket and carpet. After a little thought, one may understand that the lattice fractals are rather different from the homogeneous object like \(\mathbb Z^d\). Indeed, there were some different points of view in physics about the existence of phase transitions for Ising models on Sierpinski carpet. Finally, the following two results were proved: Theorem A. Ising models on lattice Sierpinski gasket have no phase transition in any dimension at any temperature. Theorem B. Ising models on lattice Sierpinski carpet have phase transitions in any dimension. The results are mainly due to J. L. Zheng and collected in the reviewer's book ``From Markov chains to non-equilibrium particle systems'' (1992; Zbl 0753.60055). We would like to use this chance to mention the following open problem: Does there exist phase transitions for the models on lattice Mandelbrot fractal? The present paper strengthens the above Theorem A. The authors prove that the Dobrushin-Shlosman mixing condition holds actually for the models, from both static or dynamical point of view. A further comment is that the same conclusion should also hold for most of the lattice finitely ramified fractals.
