This is a very clear and comprehensive survey of the orbit method and quantization for Lie group representations. Assuming only a basic knowledge, all necessary concepts are introduced. In particular, the coherent state representation is such an irreducible unitary representation that the group has a complex orbit in the projective space corresponding to the representation space. Any representation of a compact Lie group is of this kind, but a unimodular Lie group which admits coherent state representation is locally isomorphic to a semidirect product of a Heisenberg group and a group of Hermitian type. The following topics are dealt with: highest weights, symplectic structures, Hamilton and pre-Hamilton actions, \(G\)-spaces, coadjoint and quantizable coadjoint orbits, complete results for coadjoint representations of Heisenberg and noncompact semisimple Lie groups, classification of coadjoint representations of unimodular groups.
