Shimura's correspondence relates genuine automorphic forms on \(r\)-fold covering groups of \(GL(n)\) with those on \(GL(n)\). It was first established for \(r=2\) in [\textit{Y. Flicker}, Invent. Math. 57, 119-182 (1980; Zbl 0431.10014)] by means of the trace formula and local character relations. Later \textit{D. A. Kazhdan} and \textit{S. J. Patterson} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 59, 35-142 (1984; Zbl 0559.10026); Adv. Math. 60, 161-234 (1986; Zbl 0616.10023)] extended these techniques to relate the trivial representation of \(GL(n)\), the reviewer and \textit{D. A. Kazhdan} [Publ. Math., Hautes Étud. Sci. 64, 53-110 (1986; Zbl 0616.10024)] established the global and local correspondence for general \(r\) and \(n\). Their work implies the correspondence at all places for all representations which can appear as components of cuspidal representations, and which are consequently named ``relevant'' by Flicker and Kazhdan [op. cit.]. Using the known classification of unitary representations for the real groups (here \(r=2\)), the expected local proof of the correspondence in the real case is written out in the publication reviewed.
