The paper shows that a pair of coexistent observables [in the sense of \textit{G. Ludwig}, ``Foundations of quantum mechanics I.'', Berlin (1983; Zbl 0509.46057)], which can be expressed as a function of a third observable, is characterized in terms of positive operator bimeasures and joint measures. Further, a characterization of sets of coexistent obervables has been given in terms of families of nonorthogonal resolutions of identity.
