The topic of the study under review is the theory of knowledge spaces, in which a knowledge domain is represented as a finite set of questions. The theory of knowledge spaces has two important practical applications, i.e., for an efficient assessment of knowledge by means of an adaptive procedure, and also for testing the psychological models of problem solving processes. Such models describe the basic cognitive abilities one should have. In relation with such aspects, a description is made of the generalization of the central concepts of knowledge space theory. The connections between the central concepts (surmise function, surmise relation, knowledge space, quasi-ordinal knowledge space) are valid for the generalization. The conclusion reached by the authors is that the model has only partial applicability.
