The singularly perturbed third order equation of the form \(\varepsilon w''' +w' = 1- w^2\) is considered for small \(\varepsilon\). It is proved that for every \(\varepsilon >0\) there is a uniquely determined solution of the equation such that \(w(0)=0\) and \(w(\infty)=1\). Further it is shown that this solution cannot be odd because \(w''(0) \neq 0\) and finally the asymptotic formula \(w''(0) \sim -A\varepsilon^{-2}\exp (\frac {-\pi}{2\sqrt {\varepsilon}})\) for \(\varepsilon \to 0\) is presented. The paper is rather technical. Links to some applications concerning travelling wave solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinski equation are stated.
