A class \(M\) of subsets of the real line \(R\) is \textit{invariant} if for any \(X\in M\), any rational \(p\neq 0\), and any real \(q\), \(pX+q\in M\). The author generalizes two classical Sierpinski's results concerning additive properties of measure and category on \(R\), to large classes of invariant \(\sigma\)-ideals and \(\sigma\)-algebras. In particular, he considers the following problem: Let \(S\supset J\) be invariant classes of subsets of \(R\) such that \(S\) is a \(\sigma\)-algebra, and \(J\) a \(\sigma\)-ideal. Assume there are \(A, B\in J\) such that \(A+B\notin J\). Do there exist \(X,Y\in J\) such that \(X+Y\notin S\)? The paper contains some equivalent conditions, and some examples.
