    One particular problem related to the vorticity equation for the Navier-Stokes flow in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) is investigated in this paper. Namely the Cauchy problem is considered \[ \frac{\partial \omega}{\partial t}+(u\cdot\nabla)\omega -\nu\Delta\omega =0\quad \text{in }(0,T)\times \mathbb{R}^2, \qquad \left.\omega\right|_{t=0}= \omega_0 \quad \text{in } \mathbb{R}^2.\tag{1} \] Here \(\omega=(\omega_1,\omega_2)\) is an unknown vector, \(\nu=const>0\), \(u\) and \(\omega_0\) are given vectors. The estimates of the solution to the problem (1) played the essential role in the paper of \textit{Y. Giga, T. Miyakawa}, and \textit{H. Osada} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 104, 223-250 (1988; Zbl 0666.76052)]. The authors obtain a more general result than in the article mentioned. If \(u\) is a smooth function with properties \[ \text{div }u=0,\quad \sup_{0\leq t\leq T}\sqrt{t} |u(\cdot,t)|_\infty\leq M \] then the fundamental solution \(\Gamma_u(x,t;s,y)\) for (1) satisfies the estimate \[ \Gamma_u(x,t;s,y)\leq C\frac 1{\nu\delta(t-s)} \exp\left(K_1 M^2-\frac{K_2|x-y|^2}{\nu(t-s)}\right) \] for \(0\leq s<t\leq T\), \((x,y)\in \mathbb{R}^2\) with constants \(K_1\) and \(K_2\), for any \(0<\nu\), \(\delta\leq 1\) and any \(N>4\).
