The authors aim is to construct global attractors for a class of parabolic equations which are lying in very regular function spaces. More precisely, they consider parabolic equations of the form: \[ \begin{gathered} u_t= -\sum_{|\alpha |\leq 2m} a_\alpha (x)D^\alpha u+ f(x,D^1u, \dots, D^ku), \quad x\in\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n, \tag{1}\\ \sum_{|\alpha |\leq m_j} b_\alpha(x) D^\alpha u=0,\;m_j\leq 2m-1,\;x\in \partial\Omega,\;t>0, \tag{2}\\ u(0,x)= u_0(x). \tag{3} \end{gathered} \] Here, \(\Omega\) is smooth, bounded. In order to achieve their goal, the authors impose five conditions \(H_1-H_5\) on (1)--(3) involving a series of parameters, too technical to be stated in detail. \(H_1\) states that the data in (1)--(3) are sufficiently smooth. This permits to rewrite (1)--(3) as an evolution equation: \[ u_t+A_pu =F_p(u),\;t>0,\;u(0)=u_0. \tag{4} \] Here \(A_p-k_0I\) is the uniformly elliptic operator \(\sum= a_\alpha(x)D\) in (1) (for some \(k_0>0)\) given on the domain \(D(A_p)= \{\varphi\in W^{2m,p} (\Omega)\), \(B_j \varphi=0\) on \(\partial \Omega\), \(j\leq 2m-1\}\) with \(B_j\) the \(j\)-th boundary condition in (2). \(H_2\) then allows for fractional powers \(A^\alpha_p\), \(\alpha\in(0,1)\) and associated spaces \(D (A^\alpha_p)\). \(H_3\) guarantees that the nonlinearity \(F_p\) (the abstract version of \(f+ k_0I)\) becomes a smooth mapping from \(D(A^\alpha_p)\) to \(L^2(\Omega)\), some \(\alpha \in(0,1)\). \(H_4\), \(H_5\) finally secure the global existence of solutions of (4) and the existence of absorbing sets. Based on \(H_1-H_5\) the authors prove two theorems which essentially assert that (4) admits a global attractor lying in certain very regular Hölder spaces. These results involve the various parameters which appear in \(H_1-H_5\) and are too technical to be stated here. The paper concludes with an application to the Cahn-Hilliard equation.
