A connected component of a translation quiver is called post-projective if it has no oriented cycle and each vertex has finitely many predecessors. The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a post-projective component on the Auslander Reiten quiver of an algebra of the form \(A=kQ/I\), where \(Q\) is a finite quiver with no oriented cycles. The conditions are relatively easy to verify. We mention the following corollary which they prove. If \(A\) satisfies the separating condition then there is a post-projective component. They analyze very carefully the case of a one point extension, \(A=B[M]\), with \(M=\text{rad }P_a\), where \(a\) is a source. In this case they obtain, for instance, that if all direct summands of \(M\) belong to a post-projective component of \(\Gamma_B\) then \(M\) is directing. In the last section they define a set of quadratic forms on \(k_0(B)\), associated with the one point extension \(A=B[M]\), and connect the existence of a post-projective with the values of these forms on the classes of indecomposable summands of \(M\).
