Let \(A=F[x,y,z]\) be the polynomial ring in \(3\) variables over a field \(F\) of characteristic \(p=2\). For a smooth cubic \(G\) the Hilbert-Kunz function \(HK_{A/g}(q)\), \(q=p^n\), is determined. To this end put \(\delta=1\) in case \(q=2\) and \(\delta=0\) otherwise. Then \(HK_{A/g}(q)=9/4 q^2-\delta\), if the \(j\)-invariant of \(g\) is \(0\), resp. \(HK_{A/g}(q) = 9/4 q^2 - 1 - \delta\) in the remaining case. This result confirms a conjecture done by \textit{K. Pardue} [``Nonstandard Borel-fixed ideals'', Doctoral thesis (Brandeis University 1994)] on the basis of computer experiments. Furthermore it completes the remaining case of elliptic curves considered by \textit{R. Buchweitz} and \textit{Q. Chen} [see J. Algebra 197, No. 1, 246-267 (1997; see the preceding review)]. In contrast to their technique the author of the paper under review uses techniques from \(j\)-invariants. The case of \(j\)-invariant zero follows by the author's and C. Han's technique [see \textit{C. Han} and \textit{P. Monsky}, Math. Z. 214, No. 1, 119-135 (1993; Zbl 0788.13008)], on diagonal hypersurfaces. The remaining case of the \(j\)-invariant not zero requires a large amount of explicit computations on the kernel of a certain multiplication map.
