Convergence of multidimensional cascade algorithm (Q1377023)

The paper is a continuation of the previous paper by the authors (see SIAM J. Math. Anal. 28, No. 4, 999-1014 (1997; Zbl 0872.41003) in which a complete characterization of stability and orthonormality of the shifts of a refinable function in terms of its refinement mask was obtained. In the present paper a necessary and sufficient condition on the spectrum of the restricted transition operator is given for the convergence in \(L^2(R^d)\) of the multidimensional cascade algorithm for any starting function whose shifts form a partition of unity.
