The author presents a method which generates partial derivatives (up to order 2) well suited for scattered data problems requiring the construction of a smooth interpolant. This method is local (at a neighborhood of each mode), and is based on the minimization of the functional representing the linearized curvature of a local interpolant. An improvement of the estimates is also proposed.
