The authors study the properties of shape preserving interpolation operators involving continuous linear maps from a general topological space to \(\mathbb{R}^n\). They study the problem of the existence of shape preserving interpolants in some general settings. Many results on shape preserving interpolation and approximation obtained previously by other means follow as simple consequences from the presented unifying approach. The results of the paper are also illustrated in a number of associated examples for which the considerations of existing results do not apply.
