The paper deals with analysis and design of receivers with multiple antennas reducing both the intersymbol (ISI) and co-channel (CCI) interferences -- arising in the presence of a multipath propagation and fading channels. The authors discuss a construction and performance of a hybrid space-timed-filtered Viterbi receiver that allows to separately reduce CCI influence and equalizes ISI effects. They consider a frequency-selective slow Raleigh fading environments, assuming that channels are invariant within TDMA time slots, such as used in GSM systems. The authors formulate the signal-to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as the objective function. In order to simplify the joint optimisation they apply separation of variables, giving a proof of separation of appropriate variables. The performance of the proposed hybrid approach was verified via simulation in a GSM cellular system with slow Rayleigh fading, accepting GMSK linearisation. In simulation experiments variations of BER, for different receiver structures, were investigated, demonstrating the usefulness of whitening filters for the hybrid approach.
