Let \(E \subset R^n\) be a compact set and assume that there exists \(c \in (0, 1/2)\) such that for every \(x \in E\) and all \(r \in (0, d(E)/2),\) the ball \(B^n(x,r)\) contains a ball of radius \(cr\) not meeting \(E \). Then no point of \(E\) can be a point of density and hence \(E \) has \(n\)-dimensional Lebesgue measure equal to \(0\). In fact, in this situation it is well known that a refined conclusion holds: the Minkowski dimension of \(E\) has an explicit upper bound \(m(n,c) <n ,\) [see, e.g. \textit{D. A. Trotsenko}, Sib. Mat. Zh. 22, No. 4, 221-224 (1981; Zbl 0469.30019); \textit{O. Martio} and \textit{M. Vuorinen}, Exp. Math. 5, 17-40 (1987; Zbl 0632.30023)]. The authors carefully analyze the form of such a refined conclusion and prove further refinements and generalizations that are essentially sharp. They apply their results to find an upper bound for the Minkowski dimension of the image of \(\partial B^n(0,1)\) under a quasiconformal mapping of the unit ball \( B^n(0,1)\), which is Hölder continuous in the closure of \( B^n(0,1),\) thus extending a recent result of \textit{P. W. Jones} and \textit{N. G. Makarov} [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 142, No. 3, 427-455 (1995; Zbl 0842.31001)].
