Let \(f(z)= \sum_{\nu=0}^\infty a_\nu z^\nu\) be a power series with radius of convergence equal to one, and let \((P_n)_n\) denote the sequence of the \(n\)-th partial sums of \(f\). The author studies the question in which way (pointwise) overconvergence of the sequence \((P_n)_n\) depends on the singularities of \(f\) on the unit circle, which he supposes to be poles or branch points or logarithmic singularities of a certain prescribed form. More precisely, he shows how these singularities determine sequences of integers \((\varphi(n))_n\), and points \(z\) in \(| z|>1\) such that \((P_{\varphi(n)} (z))_n\) converges to a finite limit. It turns out that for a given sequence \((\varphi(n))_n\) depending on the singularites of ``maximal order'' the set of points \(z\) for which \((P_{\varphi(n)}(z))\) exhibits overconvergence coincides with the set of zeros of modulus larger than one of a certain Lagrange polynomial.
