Local slice constructions in \(k[X,Y,Z]\) (Q1382127)

Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic zero, \(k^{[n]}: =k[X_1, \dots, X_n]\). The aim of the paper is to describe local slice constructions, a general procedure by which, from given derivations of \(k^{[n]}\), new locally nilpotent derivations are constructed. In this way the examples of locally nilpotent derivations of \(k^{[n]}\) having maximal rank can be obtained. The main result is that every known locally nilpotent derivation of \(k^{[3]}\) can be obtained from a partial derivative via a finite sequence of local slice constructions.
