The paper under review deals with the representation type of the repetitive algebra of a gentle algebra. It follows from the work of Assem-Pogorzały-Skowroński that a finite dimensional algebra \(A\) is gentle if and only if its repetitive algebra \(\widehat A\) is special biserial. The main purpose of this paper is to prove the following: Let \(A\) be a finite dimensional algebra which is gentle and assume that its ordinary quiver \(Q(A)\) has at least two cycles. Then \(\widehat A\) is non-domestic (thus even of non-polynomial growth). This gives the converse of a result by \textit{J. Nehring} [Bull. Pol. Acad. Sci., Math. 36, No. 7-8, 441-445 (1988; Zbl 0777.16008)].
