The paper presents an efficient high-order perturbation expansion for multidimensional inhomogeneous Helmholtz/Schrödinger equations. The equation is represented in a discrete coordinate space in which the coupling between different degrees of freedom is diagonal. This leads to a sparse representation of an approximate Green's operator which is used as a preconditioner in the numerical procedure, together with a Krylov iterative method (QMR). The high-order expansion is not limited to small perturbations and enables the treatment of systems with nonseparability. A numerical example is given for the 3D Helmholtz equation.
