\textit{S. Alpern} [Ergodic theory, Proc., Oberwolfach 1978, Lect. Notes Math. 729, 16-27 (1979; Zbl 0439.28012)] proved the following ``multiple'' Rokhlin tower theorem: if \(n_1,\dots,n_k\) are relatively prime positive integers, \(k\geq 2\), and \(q_1,\dots, q_k\) are positive weights with \(\sum n_iq_i=1\), then any aperiodic invertible measure preserving transformation of a Lebesgue probability space decomposes into \(k\) towers with heights \(n_1,\dots,n_k\) and with bases of measures \(q_1,\dots,q_k\). This result has found many applications in ergodic theory and dynamical systems. Here the authors give a very straightforward proof of the multiple Rokhlin tower theorem, starting with ideas from Kakutani's proof of the original Rokhlin tower theorem.
