A Banach space \(X\) has \(\text{GL}(p,q)\) for some \(1\leq p\leq\infty\) and \(1\leq q\leq\infty\) if there is a constant \(C>0\) such that \(i_q(T)\leq C\pi_q(T^*)\) holds true for every finite rank operator \(T:Y\to X\). Here \(i_q\) and \(\pi_p\) denote the \(q\)-integral and the \(p\)-summing norm, respectively. The \(\text{GL}(1,\infty)\)-spaces are just the Banach spaces with the Gordon-Lewis property [cf. \textit{J. Diestel}, \textit{H. Jarchow} and \textit{A. Tonge}, ``Absolutely summing operators'', Cambridge Univ. Press (1995; Zbl 0855.47016)]. In Section 1 of the paper, the authors investigate the basic properties of \(\text{GL}(p,q)\)-spaces, their relationship to \(p\)-convexity, and they estimate the \(\text{GL}(p,q)\)-constants of direct sums \(X= (\sum X_k)_E\) by its components and by the \(p\)-convexity and \(q\)-concavity constants \(K^p(E)\) and \(K_p(E)\) of \(E\), respectively. In particularly, they show \(\text{GL}_{p,q}(E(X))\leq \text{GL}_{p,q}(X)K^p(E)K_p(E)\). In Section 2, the \(\text{GL}(p,q)\)-constants are used to estimate volume ratios \(\text{vr}(X,\ell_p)\) relative to \(\ell_p\), and with this result, the authors obtain lower and upper estimates of the volume ratios \(\text{vr}(X,\ell_p)\) for finite direct sums \(X= (\sum X_k)_E\) in terms of the ratios \(\text{vr}(X_k,\ell_p)\) and of \(K^p(E)\) and \(K_p(E)\).
