    The generalized Kac-Moody algebras are defined by \textit{R. Borcherds} [J. Algebra 115, 501-512 (1988; Zbl 0644.17010)]. It is well known that certain quotient of vertex algebra with Virasoro element forms a Lie algebra which sometimes becomes generalized Kac-Moody algebra. In the paper under review the author considers the case of vertex superalgebra \(V\) with Neveu-Schwarz element. Let \(P _n = \{ v \in V \mid L_0 v = n v\), \(L_m v = G_r v = 0\), \(m,r >0\}\), \( n \in {1\over 2} {\mathbb Z}\), where \( G_r, L_m\), \(r \in {1\over 2} + {\mathbb Z}\), \(m \in {\mathbb Z}\) are generators of Neveu-Schwarz algebra. The author proves that the quotient space \( G_{ - {1 \over 2} } P_{ 1 \over 2} / D P_{0}\) carries the structure of Lie algebra, and he shows that in some cases certain quotient of this Lie algebra is generalized Kac-Moody algebra. He considers the special case of vertex algebra \(V= V_{\text{ferm}} \otimes V_{\text{bos}}\) of compactified Neveu-Schwarz superstring, where \(V_{\text{ferm}}\) is vertex superalgebra given by the fermionic construction and \(V_{\text{bos}}\) is a vertex superalgebra constructed from integral lattice, and in this case he studies the Lie algebra \( G_{ - {1 \over 2} } P_{ 1 \over 2} / D P_{0}\).
