Let \(\Omega\) be a smooth bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) endowed with the canonical metric \(c\), and \((M,h)\) a Riemannian manifold with boundary. The authors prove that if \(\phi: (\Omega,c) \to(M,h)\) is a 1-harmonic \(C^1\)-diffeomorphism, with \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^2\), then \(\phi\) is energy minimizing. For the case of \(p\)-harmonic diffeomorphisms, the authors prove that if \(\phi: (B^n,C) \to (M,h)\) is a \(p\)-harmonic, \(SO(n)\)-equivariant \(C^1\)-diffeomorphism with \(p\) an integer between 1 and \(n-1\), and \(B^n\) the unit ball in \(\mathbb{R}^n\), then \(\phi\) is \(p\)-energy minimizing.
