The authors introduce a new method for constructing new examples of complete CMC-1 (i.e., constant mean curvature 1) surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space \(H^3(-1)\), which have no branch points, higher genus, many symmetries, and embedded ends. More precisely, they prove that for each complete symmetric minimal surface with finite total curvature in Euclidean 3-space with a non-degenerate period problem, there exists a corresponding one-parameter family of CMC-1 surfaces in \(H^3(-1)\). Their proof is based on a small deformation from the original minimal surface in \(\mathbb{R}^3\), preserving its (hyperbolic) Gauss map and Hopf differential. This gives CMC-c surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space \(H^3(-c^2)\), for \(c\approx 0\). Finally, they rescale the surfaces into CMC-1 surfaces in \(H^3(-1)\). The method is somewhat similar to that of the two last authors [\textit{M. Umehara} and \textit{K. Yamada}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 432, 93-116 (1992; Zbl 0757.53033)], the main difference being that they use the duality of CMC-1 surfaces to keep the symmetry properties of the initial minimal surfaces. This method can be applied to virtually all of the well-known symmetric minimal surfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^3\). Moreover, when the hyperbolic Gauss map and the Hopf differential have certain properties, the method is valid even without initial minimal surfaces. The authors also consider the problem of the reducibility of the surfaces, showing that their surfaces are irreducible.
