Let \(G\) be a group and let \(M\) be a homogeneous space of \(G\). An operator \(T: L^\Phi_B(M)\to L^\Phi_E(M)\) is of type \((\Phi,\Phi)\) if there is a constant \(C\) so that \(\|Tf\|_{L^\Phi_E(M)}\leq C \|f\|_{L^\Phi_B(M)}\) holds for every \(f\in L^\Phi_B(M),\) where \(\Phi\) is a Young function and \(B\), \(E\) are Banach spaces. \textit{E. M. Stein} [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 74, No. 1, 140-170 (1961; Zbl 0103.08903)] proved that with some minimal conditions, the maximal operator defined by a sequence of linear operators on \(L^\Phi(M)\) which commute with the group action on \(M\), is of weak type \((\Phi,\Phi)\) for \(\Phi\) in a class of Young functions. The authors extend Stein's result by considering operators that are defined on function spaces whose elements take values in Banach spaces of Rademacher type \(p\), \(1\leq p\leq 2,\) and map them to functions with values in an arbitrary Banach space. The authors also consider a somewhat larger class of operators than that of translation invariant ones, that is, the class of quasi-translation-invariant operators.
