Double short exact sequences and \(K_1\) of an exact category (Q1386678)

The author introduces a modification of the Bass group \(K_1^{\text{det}}\) in an exact category. The group is defined by generators and relations, in terms of double short exact sequences instead of automorphisms. In addition, the author establishes its relation to Quillen's \(K_1\)-group by dealing with loops in the \(G\)-construction.
