We consider the ``anticoercive'' problem \[ \Delta u+| u|^{p- 1}u= h(x)\quad\text{in }\Omega,\quad u(\partial\Omega)= 0,\tag{1} \] where \(\Omega\) is a smooth bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N>2\), \(p+1\geq 2^*\), and \(2^*\equiv 2N/(N- 2)\) is the critical Sobolev exponent. It is well-known that if \(h\equiv 0\), then for \(2< p+1< 2^*\) problem (1) has a countable set of distinct solutions in \(H^0_1(\Omega)\), but if \(p+ 1\geq 2^*\) and \(\Omega\) is a star-shaped domain, then problem (1) with \(h\equiv 0\) has no nontrivial solutions. The case of nontrivial right-hand sides is of great interest. It is well-known that if \(2<p+1< (2N- 2)/(N- 2)\), then for any function \(h\in L_2(\Omega)\) problem (1) has a countable set of solutions in \(H^0_1(\Omega)\). It is natural to pose the question of the existence of solutions in the critical and supercritical cases with nontrivial right-hand side. We study this problem when \(\Omega\) is a ball and \(h\) is a radial function. We show that, in constrast to the subcritical case, for many high-order differentiable functions \(h\) problem (1) does not have a countable set of radial solutions in the critical or supercritical cases.
