\textit{H. N. Mhaskar} and \textit{E. B. Saff} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 285, 203-234 (1984; Zbl 0546.41014)] observed the following equality \[ \max_{x\in\mathbb{R}}| p_n(x)| e^{-x^2/2}=\max_{| x|\leq R_n}| p_n(x)| e^{-x^2/2}\tag{1} \] where \(R_n\) is the maximal alternation point \(s_n\) of the polynomial deviating least from zero on the real axis with weight \(e^{-x^2/2}\). Simultaneously they have found an estimation \(s_n\leq (2n)^{1/2}\). Main results of the paper under review: equality (1) holds with \(R_n=(2n-1)^2,\) and the value \(R_n=s_n\) is least possible for validity of (1).
