The authors derive the nonlinear equations of magnetoelasticity for current-carrying elastic plates with variable thickness, placed in an unsteady magnetic field. The field equations, as well as the initial and boundary conditions, are formulated in cylindrical coordinates fitted to the plate. Simplified equations are then obtained for the axisymmetric case, and a system of linear iterated equations is deduced for the numerical treatment. Calculations and numerical results are given for an annular plate made of aluminium alloy, placed in a steady magnetic field and carrying a transversal distributed load on its upper surface.
