Let \(u\in C(\overline {\Omega})\), where \(\Omega\) is a convex domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Suppose that \(u\) is harmonic on \(\Omega\) and that the non-tangential maximal function of \(\nabla u\) belongs to \(L^2(\partial\Omega, d\sigma)\). It is proved that, if \(u=0\) on a relatively open subset \(I\) of \(\partial\Omega\) and, for some \(Q_0\in I\), \(u(X)= O(| X-Q_0|^M)\) as \(X\to Q_0\) for every \(M\in \mathbb{N}\), then \(u\equiv 0\). This fact had already been established by \textit{V. Adolfsson, L. Escuariaza} and \textit{C. Kenig} [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 11, 513-525 (1995; Zbl 0840.31005)], but the present paper gives a shorter and simpler proof based on a Carleman-type inequality.
