The author discusses asymptotics, spectral analysis, and inverse spectral problems for a canonical system described as follows. Fix an integer \(m>0\) and a \(2m\times 2m\)-matrix valued positive definite function \(H(x)\), defined for \(x\geq 0\). The canonical system is then given by \(dW(x)/dx=izJH(x)W(x),\) where \(z\) is a complex number with \(\text{Im }z>0\), and \(J=\left[\begin{smallmatrix} 0&I\\ I&0\end{smallmatrix}\right]\), where \(I\) denotes the identity matrix of order \(m\). The function \(W\) is also required to take values in the \(2m\times 2m\) matrices. The matrix function \(H\) is subject to the additional requirement that there exist a differentiable function \(T\) such that \(T(x)^{-1}JH(x)T(x)=M\), where \(M\) is a diagonal matrix with diagonal entries \(d_1,d_2,\dots,d_m,0,0,\dots,0\), and the \(d_j\) are positive.
