The paper gives a survey of principal directions of the activity of the Yu. Borisovich seminar in 1967-1997 at Voronez State University dedicated to the development of the theory of Fredholm maps of Banach manifolds and fiber bundles and applications of its results to nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems. Principal directions of this activity described in the survey are the following. 1. Development of the principle of a compact restriction (due to Borisovich and Sapronov) of a Fredholm map that opened the way to investigate the existence of solutions to elliptic and parabolic boundary value problems. 2. Generalization of the degree theory of Fredholm maps to multivalent maps. 3. Study of the topological characteristics of fundamentally restrictable compact maps and Fredholm operators with negative indices as well as Brouder- Scrypnik operators.
