Let \(P\) be a poset (partially ordered set). Fix the order-preserving bijection \(P\to \{1,2,\dots, n\}\). Let \(H\) be an integral lattice with the basis \(P\). Then the variation operator \(V:H\to H\) is defined by the upper triangular matrix with \(V_{ij}= 1\) if \(x_i\leq x_j\). The inverse \(S= V^{-1}\) is called the Seifert form of \(P\). In this interesting paper the following result is proved: A Coxeter-Dynkin diagram of a simple singularity is an A'Campo-Gusein-Zade diagram if (1) the elements of the matrix of the variation operator of the diagram are nonnegative, and (2) the matrix of the variation operator and that of Seifert form of the diagram are conjugate by a diagonal matrix with \(\pm 1\) on the diagonal.
