Let \(E\) denote the space of entire holomorphic maps \(\Phi\) on \(\mathbb{C}^k\) and \(E_m\subset E\) the space of endomorphisms of generic maximal rank \(k\). This paper deals with the extension of the Fatou-Julia theory of iteration of holomorphic maps in \(\mathbb{C}\) to higher dimension, i.e. to study of Fatou and Julia sets for holomorphic maps \(\Phi\in E_m\). The definitions are the same as in the one-dimensional case: We say that a family of maps is normal if each sequence has a subsequence which either converges uniformly on compacts or diverges uniformly to infinity. The Fatou set \(F(\Phi)\) on a map \(\Phi\in E\), is the largest open set on which the iterates \(\Phi^n\) is a normal family. The Julia set \(J(\Phi)\) consists of the complement of \(F(\Phi)\). The basic invariance properties for Fatou and Julia sets are given and two interesting examples of mappings \(\Phi: \mathbb{C}^2\to \mathbb{C}^2\) are given. The notions of periodic, recurrent and wandering Fatou components are defined and studied. For biholomorphic mappings it is proved that if 0 is an isolated point in the \(J(\Phi)\), then \(J(\Phi)= \{0\}\) and 0 is a repelling fixed point. The characterization of the maps with empty Julia set is provided. The paper is ended off by the investigation of oscillating Fatou components.
