The second volume of this multidisciplinary book deals with the study of transport processes in nonlinear heterogeneous materials. One derives effective properties of disordered materials providing constitutive nonlinearities, such as nonlinear conductivity, dielectric constant, and their optical properties, as well as nonlinear rigidity and elastic moduli. The techniques used are similar to those from the first volume, i.e. continuum and discrete description of the heterogeneous material behaviour. The second part of this volume analyzes in detail electric and dielectric breakdown phenomena, presents the basic concepts related to fracture of materials, and derives the continuum, respectively discrete approach leading to brittle fracture description. In the last part of this volume, the author obtains atomistic and multiscale models of heterogeneous materials. To this end, he uses the molecular dynamics simulation presented in various contexts. Finally, the author shows the possibilities to derive theories joining atomistic models with continuum descriptions of heterogeneous materials, via multiscale models. This multidisciplinary book is recommended to materials scientists, chemical and mechanical engineers, and applied physicists and mathematicians.
