The aim of this paper is to study the stability and controllability of the nonstationary electromagneto-elastic system \[ \begin{cases} \partial^2_t u-\nabla\sigma(u)+ \xi\text{ curl }E= 0\quad &\text{in }Q:= \Omega\times\;]0,+\infty[,\\ \varepsilon\partial_t E- \text{curl }H- \xi\text{ curl }\partial_t u= 0\quad &\text{in }Q,\\ \mu\partial_t H+ \text{curl }E= 0\quad &\text{in }Q,\\ \text{div }(\varepsilon E)= \text{div}(\mu H)= 0\quad &\text{in }Q,\\ H\times \nu+\xi\partial_t u\times\nu+ g_1(E\times\nu)\times \nu= 0\quad &\text{on }\Sigma:= \Gamma\times\;]0,+\infty[,\\ \sigma(u) \nu+ Au+ g_2(\partial_t u)= 0\quad\text{on }\Sigma,\\ u(0)= u_0,\;\partial_tu(0)= u_1\quad &\text{in }\Omega,\\ E(0)= E_0,\;H(0)= H_0\quad &\text{in }\Omega,\end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) with a Lipschitz boundary \(\Gamma\). Firstly, \(\Omega\) is said to satisfy the EE-stability estimate if there exist \(T> 0\) and two nonnegative constants \(C_1\), \(C_2\) (which may depend on \(T\)) with \(C_1< T\) such that \[ \int^T_0 \varepsilon(t) dt\leq C_1\varepsilon(0)+ C_2 \int^T_0 \int_\Gamma(|u'(t)|^2+|E(t)\times\nu|^2) d\sigma dt, \] for all solutions \((u,E,H)\) of (1) with \(g_1(\xi)= g_2(\xi)= \xi\), where \(\varepsilon(t)\) is the energy of the system. The equivalence between the exponential stability of (1) and the EE-stability estimate is proved, namely, \(\Omega\) satisfies the EE-stability estimate if and only if there exist two positive constants \(M\) and \(\omega\) such that \[ \varepsilon(t)\leq Me^{-\omega t}\varepsilon(0), \] for all solutions \((u,E,H)\) of (1) with \(g_1(\xi)= g_2(\xi)= \xi\). The EE-stability estimate is checked in some particular situations. In the next step, using the exponential decay in the linear case and Russell's principle, the author deduces some new controllability results. Finally, some stability results of (1) are obtained for general nonlinear feedbacks \(g_1\), \(g_2\).
