    Let \(R\) be an associative ring. A right \(R\)-module \(M_R\) is called a unitary module if \(MR=M\). The ring \(R\) is a right xst-ring if every submodule of any unitary right \(R\)-module is again unitary. The authors consider Morita context, Morita-like equivalence and the exchange property for the xst-rings. The first Morita theorem is generalized to xst-rings, and the theorem of \textit{Y.-H. Xu, K.-P. Shum} and \textit{R-F. Turner-Smith} [in J. Algebra 159, No. 2, 425-435 (1993; Zbl 0816.16007)] is deduced to obtain the standard Morita equivalence \(A\sim M_n(A)\), for a unital ring \(A\).
