In the paper under review the independence of lattices reflecting the independence of the corresponding quantum systems is studied. The structure \(\mathcal L\) is called a p-lattice (property lattice) if \({\mathcal L}\subset 2^{\Sigma}\), where \(\Sigma\) is a nonempty set (set of states) such that (i) \(\emptyset, \Sigma\in \mathcal L\) (ii) \(\cap_ \alpha\, a_ \alpha\in {\mathcal L}\) for any \((a_ \alpha)\subset \mathcal L\); and (iii) \(\{p\}\in \mathcal L\) for each \(p\in \Sigma\). (The elements of \(\mathcal L\) correspond to yes-no experiments.) Let \({\mathcal L}_ 1\) and \({\mathcal L}_ 2\) be p-lattices and let \(\mathcal L\) be a subset of \(\Sigma_ 1\times \Sigma_ 2\). The author proposes a few axioms on the structure of subsets \(\Sigma_ 1\times \Sigma_ 2\) that organize it into independent products of \({\mathcal L}_ 1\) and \({\mathcal L}_ 2.\) In this context the separated product of completely atomic ortholattices introduced earlier by Aerts is characterized. It is also shown that the independent product is never a Hilbert space logic and the independent product of Hilbert space logics is described.
