Let \(G\) be a connected simple complex algebraic group and \({}^LG\) its Langlands dual. If \(\mathcal O\) is a nilpotent orbit in the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) of \(G\), let \(A(\mathcal O)\) be the component group of the centralizer in \(G\) of some element of \(\mathcal O\) and let \(\bar A(\mathcal O)\) be Lusztig's canonical quotient of \(A(\mathcal O)\). Motivated by Lusztig's study of representations of the Weyl group one considers the set \(\mathcal N_{o,\bar c}\) consisting of pairs \((\mathcal O,C)\) where \(C\) is a conjugacy class in \(\bar A(\mathcal O)\). Extending earlier work of Lusztig, Spaltenstein and Sommers, the author constructs a partial order on \(\mathcal N_{o,\bar c}\) and an order-reversing duality map \(\mathcal N_{o,\bar c}\to {}^L\mathcal N_{o,\bar c}\). This requires extensive combinatorial arguments in the classical cases. In the exceptional cases all values are tabulated.
