Banach spaces over non-Archimedean (complete valued) fields are the subject of this paper. The main question investigated is whether a given closed subspace is the range of an orthoprojection \(P\), i.e., a linear idempotent operator satisfying the identity \(\| x\| =\max\{\| Px\| ,\| x-Px\| \}\). (Different terms, such as \(M\)-projection, are sometimes used in other branches of functional analysis.) For a finite-dimensional subspace of \(\ell_\infty\), this is shown to happen if and only if the corresponding quotient map preserves closedness of the unit ball. Consequently, this happens in \(c_0\) if and only if the subspace verifies the Hahn-Banach extension theorem.
