This well-written paper deals with the problem of identifying holomorphic maps \(f:D\to {\mathbb C}\), \(D \subset {\mathbb C}\) by their behavior at boundary points of \(D\). A typical result here is the statement [see \textit{H. Alexander}, Mich. Math. J. 38, 117--128 (1991; Zbl 0735.32005)] that, under certain smoothness assumptions on the image of the boundary of \(D\), the map \(f\) is constant if it is of infinite order vanishing at a boundary point \(p\in \partial D\). The latter means that \(f(z) / (z-p)^n \to 0\) as \(z\to p\) for any positive integer \(n\). Such a function has vanishing order \(k\in {\mathbb N}\) if this holds for all \(n \leq k\). In the paper under review, a number of statements of this type were proven for functions of finite vanishing order under weaker assumptions regarding the smoothness of the boundary of \(D\).
