Mayer brackets and solvability of PDEs. I (Q1397847)

Solvability of a system of two partial differential equations with one dependent and two independent variables is investigated. It is introduced a special bracket \([ \cdot,\cdot ]\), which is a generalization of the classical Mayer bracket. The smooth solvability conditions are formulated in terms of the generalized Mayer bracket. The authors show by examples how the introduced method works for second order equations. As another application, the authors give a simple proof of the linearization construction for parallelizable 3-webs on 2-dimensional manifolds.
