Jørgensen's inequality for complex hyperbolic space. (Q1397897)

The authors give analogues of Jørgensen's inequality for non-elementary groups of isometries of complex hyperbolic 2-space generated by two elements, one of which is either loxodromic or boundary elliptic. Specifically, they give a set of four conditions under which such a group is either elementary or not discrete. Broadly speaking, they adopt a matrix approach, with techniques inspired by Jørgensen's original proof; earlier separate works of the individual authors; A. Basmajian; R. Miner's stable basin theorem; and Waterman's extension of Jørgensen's inequality to isometries of higher dimensional Möbius groups. They also compare their results with those obtained by \textit{A. Basmajian} and \textit{R. Miner} [in Invent. Math. 131, No. 1, 85-136 (1998; Zbl 0901.32018)] and show that their results imply the later's.
