The authors construct embedded collars about short, simple closed geodesics in complex and quoternionic hyperbolic manifolds. Their main tool is the complex and quoternionic hyperbolic version of Jørgensen's inequality that are due to \textit{Y. Jiang, S. Kamiya} and \textit{J. R. Parker} [Geom. Dedicata 97, 55--80 (2003; Zbl 1037.20053)] and Markham's Thesis. In general, the width of those collars depend both on the length and on the rational part of the group element uniformizing it. Note that an estimate based only on the length can be obtained by a lemma of Zagier in the case of complex hyperbolic spaces. They show that these canonical collars are disjoint from each other and from canonical cusps. They also calculate the volumes of these collars.
