The present paper explains very briefly the content of the Chinese double-false position method ying bu zu (literal meaning ``too much and not enough''). After an oversimplified exposition he eaves historical matters and devises a generalisation of the antique method in view of nonlinear oscillators. Obviously, the `historical' part of the paper is rather unlearned since the author ignores most of what has already been published on the subject, he only repeats the worn out commonplace concerning the transmission of the Chinese rule in the Islamic world.
