A subgroup \(S\) of a group \(G\) that permutes with each subgroup of \(G\) is said to be `permutable' (quasinormal). The author continues his investigations on characterizing permutable subgroups of a direct product \(G\times H\) of finite groups which reduces to the case that \(G\times H\) is a \(p\)-group, the focus for this article. Two conditions evolve, either one of which is necessary and sufficient. Their nature suggests the possibility for further refinement, especially toward simplicity. Counterexamples to the most natural conjectures in this direction indicate the main theorem may be best possible. One conjecture receives further examination with respect to restricted classes of subgroups in \(G\times H\) as well as several cases in which \(G\times H\) have restricted structure. The presentation provides an excellent resource for this topic.
